Georgia’s Sweet Potato Pie is a must-stop if you’re in the mood for some delectable sweet pie this holiday season. Owned by Dawn Urrutia’s grandmother, the family-run shop can be found at 1559 Bardstown Road.
On a Saturday afternoon, I visited Sweet Potato Pie Shop to see what they had to offer and sample one or two pies. For $5, they offer single-serve mini sweet potato pies in flavors like sweet potato pecan or sweet potato cheesecake and full-sized pies and cupcakes.
Though the sweet potato pies were delicious, I was most struck by how much the bakery cares about giving back to its community. I saw a collection of books given away to children under its “Pies with a Purpose” program.
Since opening its doors in the fall of 2017, Sweet Potato Pie has collaborated with numerous local businesses. For instance, Jamberson candle company in Shively produces candles showcased inside the shop. Louisville Cream, a small-batch ice cream parlor on East Market Street, creates delicious sweet potato pie ice cream to sell.
B Sweet is an innovative bakery that blends contemporary flavors with vintage charm. Barb Batiste created it to bring back “handcrafted like grandma used to do.”
If you’re feeling peckish, why not treat yourself to some delicious bread pudding? It comes in various flavors, and you can choose your topping (if any), such as ice cream or whipped cream.
You must try a Kouign Amann, an exquisite French pastry made with butter-soaked croissants at Nola. A unique treat you won’t find elsewhere in Louisville.
At Sweet Shoppe, you’ll find an assortment of confections, including their famous chocolate bourbon truffles. Crafted with bourbon from most Kentucky distilleries, these smooth nut-free treats are a must-try if you’re partial to bourbon.
Art Eatables, located in Louisville, Kentucky, is the perfect spot for some delicious bourbon-infused candy. Additionally, they sell bourbon-themed gifts like glasses, pins, and t-shirts.
They make some stunning bourbon-themed chocolates that taste and look like their namesake! It’s the perfect place to pick up a gift for the bourbon lover; they even have fun products like chocolate sunflower seed and cherry bark!
They have an attractive website with hours of operation. Unfortunately, it’s a bit of a drive from downtown, so plan your visit accordingly. Additionally, check their site for any sales tax requirements before visiting. For best results, stop by in the evening when they are busiest. Bonus: Free parking! Unfortunately, cash payments aren’t accepted here.
